GENERAL FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Field Supervisor responsible for implementing Individual Service Plan (ISP) through the guidance of area Regional Centers, by providing adaptive skills training to individuals with developmental disabilities. AST support staff is responsible for assessing consumer functioning skills and establishing timelines for realistic growth opportunities in the areas of socialization, public transportation, community orientation, self-care, meal preparation, and money management. The following is a non-inclusive list of the essential duties and responsibilities of the job; other duties may be required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify, assess, analyze, and evaluate the development of specific and realistic goals related to independent living skills and provide 1:1 direct training (e.g., personal hygiene, money management and finances, home maintenance, education, community integration);
  • Follow specific treatment areas (domains) and determine ways to achieve stated objectives and goals of each Individual Service Plan (ISP);
  • Plan, and participate in daily implementation of goals such as performing tasks that identify consumer needs and determine expectations for attaining independent skills;
  • Identify barriers that may cause dependency and provide roadblocks to attaining new skill sets and goals; 
  • Provide comprehensive written ‘Daily Activity Reports,’ or semi-annual or quarterly written evaluations of consumer development and behavioral interactions; follow protocols for filing “Special Incident Reports;”
  • Attend and participate in monthly in-service training meetings as required and follow all payroll protocols;
  • Encourage active involvement and decision making to advance consumer to a higher skill level of independent living;
  • Maintain active communication with service coordinator and represent company during IPP meetings;
  • Monitor consumer’s medication and remain cognizant to health-related behaviors and/or changes;
  • Encourage and teach consumer to become a self-advocate through Medi-Cal, AFDC, SSI/SSA, IHSS, and other generic or government organizations;

KNOWLEDGE AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Providers must have a bachelor’s degree in one of the following: education, psychology, counseling, nursing, social work, applied behavior analysis, behavioral medicine, speech and language, rehabilitation, marriage and family therapy, or a comparable degree in a human services field.
  • Ability to be creative, proactive, and sensitive in determining solutions and solving complex and problematic issues involving consumers;
  • Ability to read and write in English;
  • Valid CPR and first aid certification;
  • Valid class “C” driver’s license and auto insurance.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or GED, or 1 year experience in the field of human services or social services;
  • Providers must have a bachelor’s degree in one of the following: education, psychology, counseling, nursing, social work, applied behavior analysis, behavioral medicine, speech and language, rehabilitation, marriage and family therapy, or a comparable degree in a human services field.
